Burger Ingredients

From beef to bison, and chicken to chickpea. There's a burger that's your perfect match. But why just settle on your favorite, when there’s an endless variety of mouthwatering burgers to try. And it's easy. Tweak your favorite or switch it up entirely. These are the main ingredients for any burger.

Bun

Soft buns (e.g. brioche) work with mince patties. Denser buns (e.g. ciabatta) with steaks. The size of bun and patty should be similar.

Patty

Popular are beef, chicken, turkey, salmon, and veggie patties. Another option is pulled pork, instead of a patty.

Sauce

Key for a moist burger and to boost flavor. Other than special sauce, try mayonnaise, ketchup, Asian-style sauces, pesto, tzatziki, hummus.

Veggies

Veggies adds texture, flavor, and freshness. Popular veggies include lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, avocado, and slaw.

Extra Toppings

The most classic extra topping is of course cheese. The best cheeses melt well. Classics are American or cheddar. For something slightly different try brie or blue cheese. Other popular toppings include fried egg, bacon, and pineapple.

How to Make a Burger

Burgers can be cooked in a different of ways, including pan-frying, grilling, and broiling. We cover pan-frying which takes a minimum amount of time while achieving maximum flavor.

Hamburger patties cook quite quickly so before you start cooking the meat, have all your ingredients and toppings in place.

1. Toast Buns

Cut buns in half and spread each with butter. Place face down on a grill pan or skillet over medium heat.

2. Fry Patty

Make a shallow depression in the centre of each patty with your thumb. Season both sides. Fry in a cast-iron pan over medium-high heat.

3. Add Sauce

Spread the burger sauce over the base of each bun. Use different sauces on the top and bottom to add extra flavor.

4. Assemble

Add patty and your chosen toppings. Season fresh vegetables like tomato with salt and pepper before adding.
